Deon Cole

Deon Cole is one of Chicago Top comedian superstars! We know him best for his work on MTV's Short Circuitz and Wild N'Out as well as his work in Both Barbershop films. I could go on and on about his accomplishments with HBO's Def Comedy Jam to Bet's Comic View but it's time to get a personal view of who Deon is and what he is about. He loves his native hometown of Chicago and is truly one of the most humble down to earth people you would ever want to know. Deon was in town doing a show with one of his good friends Damon Williams another great Chicago comedian icon and took a little time to give us all some insight to whom and what he is about.

What was it like the first time you took the stage? What made you do it?

I felt like I never had before, I made a bet with someone and I did it.

Who are your role models? What keeps you grounded?

Elle D, George Willborn and Richard Pryor, Society is what keeps me grounded.

Do you prefer Stand-up or acting? Which do you find more challenging?

Stand up, because that is what made me what I am today, I can always go back to stand up, Always! I can't go back to acting, they might not allow me, and you have to be allowed to act, standup you can just do it.
You cant say, because it depends on where you are what you are doing, its like either you are a Mercedes or a BMW, you may have your preference but you are not going to trip over either, you will take whichever.

Do you write your own material? Do you write for others?

Yes I do and I do write for others as well.

You have traveled the world and worked with many of today's top artist, what has been your favorite tour so far?

I don't have one, every place is different and it brings new education and surroundings, so I can't say that I have favorite. I haven't been every where, but where I have been they have all been great, no place is my favorite, I can go to Gary and it can be just "as poppin" as the Bahamas, depends on what I am doing. Trips can be bad because of people but not where, it matters what you do with it.

What is next for you? What are your goals 10 years from now?
In LA currently producing a few television shows, trying to get stuff up and running; being know for having a show on the air is what I'm going thru right now. I intend to continue doing stand up and in St. Petersburg Florida on a stool doing jokes to a sold out crowd! (Deon Laughs)

Got to ask this question for the female fans, are you single?

This is the first time I have ever done this; in 11 years this the first time I can ever say that I am single and it hurts.

Tell us something no one would ever know about you?

I'm not funny all the time, only funny on stage, I take life very seriously. I also love Reese's Cups!

Your advice to future comedians?

Write, write, write, write, and make sure you feel like your hot material is "the shit"!
This is not a hard job, write constantly, you not a lawyer or judge or Dr. your job is to constantly write and give your best version of it.
